Character: Keats
Series/Fandom: Folklore (PS3)
Original or Template version: Original

Age: 28
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Sexuality: Uninterested but heterosexual.

Appearance: A man wearing glasses. Keats is a bit on the tall side, thin, and usually just looks like he tossed on his clothes before leaving his office. More often than not, this is the case. His face is rather long, with a narrow nose and thin lips and what is sometimes his most distinguishing feature- his perfectly circular glasses. He has a nearly permanent 5 o'clock shadow, and his wavy brown hair is shaggy in that “needed a haircut two months ago” sort of way.

As far as clothing is concerned, Keats is seen wearing a white dress shirt, collar undone with a bright green tie loose around his neck, and cuffs unbuttoned. A black vest that doesn't quite reach his pants is worn over this, and a black belt holding up a pair of fairly fitting black pants, tucked into knee-high brown boots round off his ensemble. When he's out of the office, Keats wears a purple trench coat with black cuffs and collar, and tan panels with Celtic knotwork on the back and chest.

He's fairly laid back, his hands usually in his coat pockets when he's walking. He also walks with his head slightly downcast but leading him, giving the impression that he's usually thinking about something.

Marked: Not Marked

Personality: Keats is the consummate reporter- endlessly curious, impartial to a fault (and even when he does chose a side, he claims that he never did), and will do whatever it takes to get a scoop. He is also, among other things, quite possibly the world's biggest skeptic, constantly doubting something even after he has seen or experienced it and had his own experiences backed up by other witnesses. Some might think this hinders him, as he works for an occult magazine, but Keats's analytical thinking and thorough reporting has gained him a small following.

He is, however, not the best person at connecting with others, and is a bit of an outsider around other people. This comes in handy when working on a story (which he always is), as it gives him a fairly impartial perspective on it. He is also not easily shaken by simple things like death, seeing it generally as another part of his story (or the loss of someone he was going to interview).

As far as the actual reporting business, it is his life. Really, Keats is happiest when in his office, furiously typing away to meet a deadline. Interruptions while he is working, even visits from friends, are met with annoyance.

He also has a bit of a sarcastic streak and has a very, very dry wit that not all pick up on.

Abilities/Strengths: His greatest strengths lie in his personality and make him a fantastic reporter. His curiosity, when paired with a nearly stubborn persistence means he will follow a story to the bitter end, no matter how ugly it might get, or how many well-buried truths he must uncover. When pursuing a story, Keats is nearly fearless.

That is not to say that Keats cannot hold his own in battle. Aside from the captured Folks he is able to use while in the Netherworld, Keats is also the Guardian to a Netherworld Messenger, meaning he is able to “Transcend” into his guardian form. While using this ability, Keats's skin becomes a very light gray, his hair turns white and he adds on a considerable amount of muscle mass. Though this form only lasts for a short while, he is invincible while using it. His attacks are much more powerful and he no longer summons a Folk to fight with him- he harnesses their power and his attacks take on the element of the Folk.

Weaknesses: Keats distances himself from people and has a fair bit of trouble actually empathizing with another person. As such, he has nearly no true friends (and when faced with someone talking about their friendship, would probably say something along the lines of “I never said I was your friend to begin with”). His own skepticism makes his doubt even the most fundamental of facts.

History: As a reporter for the occult magazine Unknown Realm, Keats has seen, heard, and investigated nearly everything, and yet, he still does not believe. To Keats, everything, even the mysteries of life and death, will be explained some day by science.

Keats is, for the most part, your average reporter, and one day while in the editorial department, working on a story, he received a phone call summoning him to the village of Doolin. The discovery of a murdered woman at the Cliff of Sidhe and the eventual uncovering of a deeper mystery led Keats to the Netherworld, the land where emotions, memories and those of the dead collect. Keats was summoned beneath the Henge south of town on November 4th, and in witnessing Ellen's transformation into a Netherworld messenger, Keats was chosen to have the abilities of a Guardian and became able to travel between the Netherworld realms on his own.

The Netherworld, however, had problems of its own, and two factions were vying to reach the Netherworld Core and gain control of the land. Keats loosely allied himself with the ancient messenger Livane and her attendant, the invisible man Belgae, two people that seemed to be the antagonists at first glance. Keats's goal became not only to finish his story, but to save Ellen from being killed to reach the Core. The girl had more than her share of skeletons in her past, and every step they came closer to the Core uncovered a bit more of Ellen's shrouded past. Keats, despite it all, grew very close to Ellen and aided her in the final battles at the Core.

After it was all said and done, Keats returned to his reporting. Ellen visited from time to time, but deadlines were deadlines, and Keats rarely let her hang around his office for long.
